France team: relapse, badly managed recovery… Deschamps defends himself after Benzema’s withdrawal!

  • The French national team coach Didier Deschamps responded to the controversy on Sunday on the set of Téléfoot after the injury that deprived Karim Benzema of the 2022 World Cup.

Karim Benzema’s return to collective training turned into a fiasco on Saturday with the French national team.

The 34-year-old striker, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury in his left thigh at Real Madrid for several weeks, has injured the quadriceps in the same thigh and has withdrawn from the 2022 World Cup.

Benzema injured in a “harmless gesture

The Frenchman has been accused by some of hiding the truth about his physical condition in recent weeks and by others of mismanaging his recovery, but coach Didier Deschamps set the record straight on Sunday on the set of Téléfoot.

“It’s a big blow obviously”. It’s a big blow obviously. Karim had done everything, and so had we. I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to do that, but I’m sure I’m going to be able to do that. I’m sure I’m going to be able to do that, but I’m sure I’m going to be able to do that.

The fault of bad luck?

When asked about the subject, the technician was more annoyed and insisted that the recovery protocol had been perfectly respected, without taking any ill-considered risks. “I know that you are looking for controversy. I repeat, it was his ischio on the other leg that bothered him in recent weeks. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to do that, but I’m sure I’m going to be able to do that,” he said, “I’m sure I’m going to be able to do that. I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to do that…

“It’s not even on an acceleration or a shot… He felt, like Christopher Nkunku who had nothing, but in training, it can happen unfortunately to have a problem, to get injured. It’s never the right moment. I’m not sure if it’s a relapse, but unfortunately he has a problem on the other side that prevents him from staying with us”. I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to do that. The French coach has also announced that he will not replace the Merengue and will play the World Cup with a group of 25 players (see here).
